I actually sat down and made an outfit!!! *faints*

Sewing and I have an on again/off again romance.
Recently the urge to create via my sewing machine has been pressing. (haha corny humor... (o.o)...)

Anyway...I made the above (and below) top and skirt today.
I sat down and expected nothing, as MANY of my sewing projects end up in the trash.
I like things perfect, and if they aren't perfect I seek to force them to my standard of perfection, which = trash can. (^_^)

The color yellow is a favorite of mine recently. In fact, blending unexpected earth tones with brights to create various styles has really been my "thing" the last few months.

So, it only makes sense that my first new/complete outfit applies my odd color combo fascination.

Here is a full body shot....

I got to thinking, as I often do (dangerous!), would any of you be willing to purchase outfits or clothing pieces like these? (They have button snap closures and the top is lined in brown fabric). If so, what would you consider a reasonable price to pay? I'm interested in getting everyone's feedback. Now, I'm not saying I definitely will sell anything like this, but it is a possibility...

OH, and Haven is STOKED about the Fashion Doll Fashion Show....
He has a pretty huge part to play, and you will hear more on that this week! (^_~)

*hugs*

P.S. A GIGANTIC THANK YOU TO ALL THE AWESOME AND WARM WELCOME BACK COMMENTS!!! (^_^)

  1. I think that lovely outfit could be easily sold on eBay. I couldn't say a price but here, in Spain, you can find handmade dresses from 5 to 15 euros, depending on the dress. Anyway, I love the skirt and the top, good job!!

    1. Thank you very much Acerico! EBay is certainly an option. Although, I think I will more likely sell from my blog, dollpage, or Etsy. (^_^) I have noticed MANY sellers from Spain with GORGEOUS doll fashions for sale.

  2. I'm not really sure on the skirt (I would say $10 for that as well... but I've no idea how hard those ruffles are... so maybe it's not worth the time for only $10? I really don't know!!!), but I'd pay at least $10 for the top, at least... I love the pattern!

I love the outfit! Wonderful work... and beautiful color choices!

    1. To be honest the skirt was one of those things I was almost 80% sure wouldn't work out. It was my first time working with ruffles and the confusion that comes with them. lol I feel with more practice I could definitely get use to the skirt idea. I would have never thought to charge as much as $10 for the skirt. And the tops I have made before (for my own collection and they get a lot of use!) Thank you very much for the encouraging and helpful words!! How hard is it to run your Etsy shop? Is it very expensive?

  3. Beautiful work. And hell yes I would buy! I agree with Heather, I'd say about $20 for the outfit. I'm not experienced in buying handmade doll clothes really but looking around on Etsy, for something well made with a good fit, $20 is totally reasonable.

So many perfectly good looking doll clothes out there are just the wrong fabric so it hangs weird, print is over-sized or what have you but it looks like you have the perfect combos going on!

(And you know me, if it's black, I'll buy it!)

    1. Thank you Dani!!!!! *hugs* (^_^) I have a actually made this top in black twice. Charice wore it in the interview she did with Haven. Though, that one was hand sewn and not lined. I'm with you on the black doll clothes....I cannot seem to get/find enough! I'm still blown away at $20...I would probably not charge more than $15 for a top and skirt like this one. Especially if I could sell on a low/no fee platform like my blog or thedollpage. I have quite a bit of great fabric just lying around that I have wanted to utilize...so I can buy even more cute fabric (to also utilize). lol

Etsy is wonderful for selling your doll items...I think $20 for the outfit above is reasonable. I would buy it! :)

Can't wait to see Haven again in the fashion show!!

    1. I always wish I could be more like people who just fall madly in love with sewing and make tons of AMAZING things! lol Maybe one day... (^_^) Is it very costly to run an Etsy store?

Haven is so READY to get some blog/event time again!! lol I'm thinking drama may be afoot.

    2. I am the same way...I get so frustrated that I just will not touch the sewing machine for like 2 weeks. I can envision fabulous fashions in my head but when I try to actually sew them I go crazy trying to figure it out.

I love Etsy the fees are way cheaper than that other E place. For me I think its worth it. Here is a link of what Etsy charges...

Now it's time for me to go work on some fashions :)

  5. Loving the outfit!! Yes I would totally buy one!! I agree that 20.00 sounds reasonable too. I don't have much sewing skills so I can't say how long it takes to make anything though.

I am so excited about the fashion show. I can't wait to hear more!!!

    1. Thank you April!! (^_^) Still, I am floored at the possible $20 price tag. lol Probably wouldn't sell something like this for more than $15. I am always wanting to improve my sewing skills so that I can have some unique pieces without all the spending I tend to do on doll clothes. lol

And I will dish on the Fashion Show details soon. Just working out some other ideas.

  6. Pretty Pretty! I would defentily buy them, around $15-$20, considering I'm broke most of the time LOL. Uh oh. When you mentioned Haven, the girls around here started freaking...

    1. LOL I'm broke more than I'd like to admit too! (^_^) $15 sounds pretty reasonable, and I am thinking that making some in solid colors and some in prints would add to the versatility. I make pieces from my collection that can also work with other things I already own. If I sell things I have made I want that to be a possibility for everyone else too. (^_^)

Yeah...Haven is playing a big part in the Fashion Show...

  8. Wellcome back Cat :) I adore your work! It's the kind of outfit that could be seen in the window of a shop!! And you are a source of great inspiration for me, since I'm trying to do some sewing stuffs for my dolls. For the prices, I am agree with Acerico, 5 to 15 euros are right prices. Can't wait for your next post, I'm curious!!
