Ooak Tris Barbie Commission

She started out as a Tris Barbie (short hair version).
I rerooted her in a custom blend of several shades of red saran.
She was given flocking, cut/style, and freckles.
^_^

She was inspired by Chlöe Howl.
The top is by HautePoppet.

In other news...

If you haven't seen episodes 1-8,
you still have time to check them out before Episode 9 arrives.

Out of This World Poppy Parker Reroot

I didn't take a before photo of this doll,
but you can click here to see Out of This World Poppy Parker as she was before.

She was a commission, so I sadly had to send her home to her owner.
Pretty sure I need this Poppy in my life one day. ;)
She was re-rooted in Tickled Pink Saran.

(A progress photo, just because.)
^_^

And a couple more pretty pictures for good measure...

If you haven't seen episodes 1-7,
you still have time to check them out before Episode 8 arrives.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look around.

The Idea Grew On Me.

I embarked on rooting my first beard/mustache.
You'd think I would have become brave enough to attempt this sooner.
Wrong. ;)

Miranda, of OneSixthAvenue, needed a dad for Luke.
She had some great ideas on how she wanted him to look.
Together, we made one hot dad.
You can see more of his final look on Miranda's Flickr.
^_^

A little more about this project...

The base doll was a Hunger Games Finnick Ken.

Yes, I used the same before picture on a previous project.

I started with a reroot.

His hair is a mix of hand blended silver and light brown saran.

The beard was added last and went through 2-3 rounds of boil washing.
Letting the hair dry, while held down, was key in keeping the beard/mustache from sticking out all over the place.

Rooting in a beard gets very tricky when you hit the goatee/chin area.
The thickness in the vinyl makes for a dangerous situation.
So if/when you attempt to root in a beard, keep that in mind.
You need a long thin needle, pliers, and patience.
It should not have to come to blood, sweat, swearing, and beards.
;)
Lesson learned.

A quick picture of his part and beard up-close.

He looks like a guy who wants to experience the open road,
on his motorcycle, all day.

This is a comparison shot I took to see if I had pulled off the first stage of a father/son look.
The brown eyes on Luke's dad are photoshopped in this picture.
However, Miranda has since made him look older and given him dark eyes.
It looks awesome! I'm sure she will post more pictures in the future. :)

Of course, he was introduced to some of the local trouble makers.

He didn't seem to mind...

This might be a good time to announce Episode 7!

If you haven't seen Episode 6,
you still have a week to check it out before Episode 7 arrives.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look around.
I'm excited to keep each of you updated!

Dreadlocks and Kawaii!

Last week, I worked on a very special guest.
I didn't snag any before pictures, but you might recognize him from Miranda's blog.
It is the handsome, Shaun!
<3

Miranda wanted something edgier for him,
so she sent him to me for dreadlocks.

Here is the result...

For those of you who want to try something like this,
I suggest visiting this wonderful tutorial:

Miranda did his awesome facial hair.

The style is actually done with side cuts on both sides.

One more...full body shot. ;)

I promised some Kawaii style cuteness in the title, and now I'm going to deliver.
^_^

I re-bodied one of my Fashionista Barbies, named Nala, on a new Made to Move Barbie body.
She has such a sweet face!
As you can see, Nala and Morgan have become fast friends.
I hope they don't share a love of bad boys.
Maybe Nala's kind demeanor will rub off on Morgan over time.
I can dream. ;)

 On a side note:
I saw the following posted on Facebook
and thought some of you might be interested.

Boys and Curls, May I Have Your Attention, Please? ;)

I recently completed a commission that allowed me to experiment with a new medium.
Glitter!
Okay, it isn't new, but it isn't something I have used for flocking before.
The base doll for this project was a Hunger Games Finnick Ken.

Here is his disembodied head also sometimes referred to as a before shot.
;)
I'd say, judging from his expression, he isn't feeling the before picture.

Oddly, I think he's feeling this look.

I flocked both sides in a very fine black glitter.
It went everywhere.
I should've donned a mask, but I had no idea the sparkling death my lungs would incur.
Still, it looks pretty don't you think?
(^_^)

For a guy who has glitter on both sides of his head, he looks serious.
o.O

I'd like to point out that neither of us happens to be magicians.
His shirt was changed to gray using Photoshop.  ;)

Bonus project!
For those of you who may not recognize the gal in the above picture, she is a Tris Divergent Barbie doll.
I liked her original look.
But you know I'm a sucker for longer hair when it comes to my dolls.
So, this transformation may not surprise you.

I re-named her Clara, and she is wearing another beautiful creation from HautePoppet.

I know a lot of individuals aren't thrilled with the new Made to Move Barbie bodies.
But I LOVE them!
The range of motion coupled with the affordability is a win/win for me.

On an unrelated note,
I have officially dropped the "A" and will now be known as "Doll Affinity" instead.
I will be changing out logos reflecting the new and subtle name change soon-ish.
^_^

May this find you happy and smiling,

He's one hell of an assistant!

I am ever so pleased to present Sebastian Michaelis of Black Butler fame.
For those of you who have not seen the anime I am referring to, he is one of my favorite characters.
^_^

He has been a 2 year project, but he was worth the wait.
Sebastian's re-paint was done by the talented Joey Versaw of Mary Magpie dolls.
I re-rooted him, and then gave him a cut/style using premium black nylon hair I purchased
Sebastian has been dressed in random pieces of Ken clothes I've acquired along the way.
(^_^)

It is here that I should note he started out as a Legolas Ken doll.
His metamorphosis can be seen in the photo below.

I have special plans for this new member of my 1/6 crew.
Some hints await you in the following photos...

Such a curious first meeting...

A most alarming chemistry between them....

Not romantic, as one might assume...

 An agreement. A contract perhaps?

Did I mention our dear Sebastian has only one weakness?
He loves cats. ;)

I hope everyone is enjoying the changing of seasons in preparation for the new year.
And if not, I hope you're staying warm, or cool depending on where you are in the world. <3

Warning: Edgy Makeovers Inside

This is going to be a picture heavy post, but I'll try not to be long winded. ;)

I didn't lie! I've been busy and I've certainly been around. Maybe not around the blog but I'm doing better than I was, so we'll try to focus on the positive.
(^_^)

In this post I will be showing you three different custom gals I worked on within the last few months. As of this post all three are home with their respective owners.
First up, the custom Barbie Fifth Harmony Dinah Doll with a partial re-paint and a full re-root.

She did not start life glamorous. In fact, I was going to just sell her head and move on.
Then inspiration struck as I realized what a pretty face she had.
It caused me to remember what once propelled me forward in my creative dolly endeavors.
My joy came from unearthing something beautiful in a doll others would look over.
I settled on a two color re-root using saran hair, and followed it up by enhancements to her original face paint.

Of course I cannot leave you with just a before and after shot.
Let the photo shoot commence...

The above picture is unedited as is the one beneath it. The edited pictures are truer to the colors in real time, but I decided to add these photos and showcase a different angle of the finished doll.

Details...

Yes this couch will be seen in a lot of my photos. ;)

Next in line for her blog debut is a doll I am really pleased to have worked on!

Formerly a Top Model Nikki Barbie given a re-root in Nylon hair and flocking on one side.
She belongs to the very talented Miranda of OneSixthAvenue.
Be sure to keep an eye on OneSixthAvenue's blog and Facebook for this girl's appearance in the future. ;)

Before I get to the fashion shoot with this doll I would like to take a closer look at her hair.
Please keep in mind that these photos are not edited.
I don't think I will do a short hairstyle using Saran ever again. Premium Nylon was superior in it's performance to obey what I needed in every way.
Thank you for trusting me Miranda!! <3

After the cut/style and boil it laid beautifully.
You can see more pictures taken by Miranda here and here.

Now the photo shoot...

I hated to see her go. Can you blame me?!
Miranda mentioned she had a Kill Bill character feel and I have to agree with her.
Maybe my subconscious enjoyment of the Kill Bill movies were at play while I styled her?
;)

And the last gal I have to share today is one I made for my personal collection.

I decided I wanted a more punk LA girl.
^_^

She was given a reroot in two saran colors, flocked, pierced, and partially re-painted with eyelashes added.

I don't have a mouthful to say about this one. Just that you'll see more of her in the future.
;)

The last photo shoot (and it's short)...

And as a bonus, for those of you wondering how her original hair looks up close, I took some pictures.

Feel free to click the photos to enlarge them for detail.
^_^

I hope each of you is having a wonderful October!!
More coming soon!
