Another Commission...

So, yesterday I received an e-mail from a fellow blogger who wanted to commission me to do a doll for a friend.  She sent a very specific picture of what was requested...

(The above picture does NOT belong to me.)

Initially, upon seeing the picture, I panicked a little. LOL  I am VERY new to re-paints of this magnitude.  But I wanted to help, so I picked a doll I felt was close.

This is a Fashionista Sweetie Barbie head on a regular belly button style body.
First thing I did was wash and boil her hair, and then I pulled it back.
I decided to leave the earrings in, because I thought they would look great with her new face paint.

So, the above picture shows what I painted first.
I realized the doll I chose had a smaller forehead, so this re-paint was not going to be exact.

But I pressed on until I had this...
(With Flash)

(Without Flash)

After her face was done it was time to make her an outfit.
Here is the end result of a relatively short brainstorming session...

There she is...ready for her new owner. (^_^)

And one more shot with no flash for dramatic effect.

  1. Wow she is really pretty!! Liz has always been into the Día de Muertos faces but I've never really liked them much - you really did a great job on her!

    1. Thank you! Liz is a VERY talented girl indeed. I am fast becoming a fan of her exceptional skills. I'm not accustomed to re-painting yet and most of the projects I've had thus far are odd, but it is great learning experience.

  5. That is crazy cool. I was looking at the large photos and she has like a powder finish instead of brush strokes. Can I ask how you achieved that? You don't have to tell if it's a trade secret. ^_^

    1. Thank you!! I didn't want brush strokes, so I did what humans do. I cut up small pieces of a make up sponge and blotted acrylic paint on evenly. (^_^) Well, humans use real make-up...I hope.

I've always wanted to try a Dia De Los Muertos skull paint myself... but have yet to do it... this one is great!!!
(So far I've only tried my hand at repainting a few Monster High and Bratz dolls...)

    1. Thank you!!! The MH doll I repainted was so much easier to see than the Barbie sized girls have been. I also really love the MH face molds, as their unique shapes make for a fun and creative play ground. You should definitely give it a go!

    1. Aww! Thank you girlie!! Of course you can save the pics. (^_^) I use acrylics, and I think they look more vibrant because they are on the white.
