I took the plunge!....Again!

I completed my first Barbie sized full facial re-paint yesterday. She was requested by the same client, and he wanted her to be done in the likeness of Effie Trinket of the Hunger Games series, or more specifically after the following picture.....

He plans to re-root her and give her the above hair style. Plus, he is going to get an outfit similar to the one above.  So, what you will see next is my "face-up"...

Again, the above is the only "in process" shot I took of her.  She was originally a Barbie Loves Frank Sinatra doll.

The finished face....(with flash)

A Side view...(with flash)
Front shot with her painted scalp (no flash)...

A side shot with painted scalp (no flash)...

This one was tricky because I had to create various techniques to get the look I was after.
He loves her and is looking forward to customizing her the rest of the way.

So, I'm not sure what my next full re-paint will be, but you can be sure I will share it here. (^_^)

What I got done this week... Lots of pictures!

Many of you are familiar with the fact that I start several projects at a time, and project hop until they start getting finished. Occasionally I sit down and get a project done in one sitting, but it isn't common. So this week I set out to see what loose ends I could tie up in the land of lost projects. I made a list, formulated a battle plan and went to creative war within my dolly verse.

Here is the outcome....

First, I completed my sister's birthday doll (very late). She still loves her, and you will soon see why. I have had this doll planned for months. I purchased her head on the doll page months ago. Her hair was awful and she needed a body, an articulated one. Luckily I had a spare Obitsu body lying around that was a perfect fit for this gal. I ordered a custom blend of auburn colors for her hair, and worked diligently to create a stunning doll my sister is completely in love with.

She started as a Lord of the Rings Galadriel Barbie...
...except not nearly as awesome as the photo suggests.

 I named her Ella. (^_^)

Ella: "I LOVE MY NEW HAIR!!!"

Next on my journey to getting things done I flocked my very first female doll.
Now this woman is rather special.
She's Sienna's mom!
I have been looking everywhere for the doll capable of being Sienna's mother for awhile now. I would think I had it and then it just wasn't working with my vision of her.

Meet Charice...

The funny thing about Charice, is that I have had the means of making her for months and didn't know it. I became so buried in projects, supplies, and dolls that I didn't realize Sienna's mom was safely tucked away in my possession already.  She is made up of a "That's so Raven" head (bought on the doll page months ago), Sienna's old body, and mahogany brown flocking...and a star was born! (^_^) She is so beautiful!
Definitely a new favorite.

Then, in the spirit of flocking and creating I got around to Micah. He is formerly a Barbie Basics Model 16.  I got his articulated Harley Ken body for $29 shipped! Which, isn't too bad right now. I re-painted his eyebrows, flocked him, and he came to life.

My girls love bad boys...*sigh*
I may re-root him in the future, but this works for now.

And believe it or not...there is more!

The next project I finally wrapped up is Lenore. She has been in my collection for awhile, but I hated her part, and she needed a new body.  So, I rooted in a new side part, and put her on an articulated body.

She started as Barbie as Snow White seen in this photo:

Here is the result of my tweaking...

I find her cute factor overwhelming and inspiring. (^_^)

She has an anime vibe to her that is irresistible.

Here is my shelf before I took all of the above pictures....

The guy on the far left is Aidan. He is a re-root I purchased before I knew how to do it myself. In fact, he is the only purchased re-root I own. However, I did add the black streaks. He is in the photo because he got a new articulated body. Which, was a PAIN to accomplish! If I ever find an easier way to get those types of heads onto those bodies...I'll do a tutorial. For now, I will just say that I don't look forward to the next time I have to do it. Sadly, there will be a next time. :(

And as of today, I finished my first full re-paint which can be seen here: CLICK ME! ;)
Tomorrow I will be tackling my 2nd full re-paint, and her identity is a surprise.
She is another commission for the same person and he and I are excited (I'm also nervous) to see the result. The re-paint is being done on a Barbie this time. Wish me luck!!

Okay....so I will stop for now. I got some other things done, and I am currently working on other re-root commissions as well as personal projects.

Oh yeah....and Haven's interview just needs pictures taken and I will be posting that in the coming week. (^_^)

May smiles find each of you!!
Be blessed and play on!

I took the plunge...

that's right....my very first full facial re-paint. Oddly enough, it was done on a Monster High Doll. I admire them but I don't collect them. It's tempting, but still I resist.  This was done for a commission, and they love what I did! (^_^)

She started her journey looking like this... (the only in progress shot I took)..

So this is originally a Cleo De Nile doll, and he wanted her  to have the powdered make-up reminiscent of the Victorian era of decadence and royalty. But, it needed to look worn and aged/faded. I love a challenge.

And the next picture displays the make-up looking aged and worn...
I had to use the flash to capture it...

I want to thank Chynadoll for the awesome paints that helped make this possible.
(^_^)

So, what do you guys and gals think? Should I throw in the paint brush, or keep painting?

Last 2 days to submit Interview questions for Haven and a new re-root

So, as the title suggests, January 22nd is the last day to submit your interview questions for Haven. I have approximately 10 questions as it stands.  In Doll Drama news, I have written episode 15 and will be shooting it this weekend. This episode won't be nearly as long as the last few, but still worth watching. I have already begun writing episode 16 and it will be ready sometime after I post Haven's photo story interview in the upcoming week.

I am eye ball deep in commission work and personal projects. I finished up a few this past week, one of those projects was a re-rooted "Nod for Mod Barbie" for my friend Danielle Kempke.

Danielle Kempke is one of Haven's biggest fans, so I thought introducing her new dolly to him was the right thing to do...
Her first reaction... "Ooooohhh! Can I keep him?"
My reply..."Um, no."
Her follow up...."He's Puuuuurrrrfect! Mine! Mine!"
Me...."Haven, I had no idea.."
Haven..."She's cute."
Me..."Oh geez."

"Okay you two...look pretty for the camera, and then it's off with her head into an envelope with her."

Ghastly, aren't I? ;-)

So, in the tradition of being happily swamped in custom doll work I snapped a picture of my work shelf this morning.

Wow.
My sister pointed out how hilarious and weird this would look to the folks not in the loop of what I do in my spare time. Please keep in mind this is a VERY small portion of my creative wreckage.  Although, not all the dolls are works in progress, but most of them are.
I call this my active transition shelf.
Projects in...projects out, though never as fast as I would like.
My head is so full of ideas I may implode with creativity one of these days.

That concludes my relatively quick update. I hope you are all amassed in creative projects of your own and succeeding!!

The new guy...worth the wait!

So I mentioned in one of my last posts that I had gotten my hands on a doll that was on my MUST HAVE list. Surprisingly, that list isn't nearly as long as you might think. ;)
Regardless, he finally arrived in the mail today, and as promised I won't keep you in the dark as to his identity any longer...

I am pleased to intruduce Kai.
Or as many of you may know him, Dynamite Girls Summer Daze Kyu.

How can the cat just sit there playing in yarn with him in the room?

A shot with no flash. He looks like a handsome apparition.

Aw, he is doing the dishes that my messy divas left behind.
He's either adorable, or a total suck up.
Time will tell...

The story behind wanting/getting Kyu, is that I could not even think of affording him in the beginning. He was being listed for $250-$300+ which is WAY out of my price range as far as buying a single doll is concerned. I actually got very fortunate to be the first to contact a seller on thedollpage.com, as Kyu was listed very low. Once I found out the shipping I couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to get Kyu NRFB for $128 shipped. That included his shipper, delivery confirmation, and Priority Mail.
The seller was fast to ship, and I am all aglow with new doll joy.
If this purchase is a glimpse into the expansion of my fellas this year, then I'm in for a treat. (^_^)

I hope everyone is well!!!
Play on!

It's raining men! My first action figure...

So, I showed a picture of an action figure head several posts back. Well, under the guidance of William I finally ordered his body from monkeydepot.com. Please let me introduce you to Haven and Kiko's Dad, Tatsuo.

Oh Tatsuo is hiding all sorts of muscle under that dress shirt. Let's take a look, shall we?

I was certainly surprised with the articulation and build of this fella.
And, like his son, he is apparently NOT shy. lol
Yes, I know the skin is not an exact match, but I can live with it for now. (^_^)

And judging by those hands, he wants YOU to...

"Come hither..."  Um, what? lol  Sure this isn't somehow Eli's dad?

I gotta get different hands in a relaxed/semi-normal looking position....soon.

I also took the initiative to take a couple height comparison shots, but I made him put his shirt back on as I feared for Hanna's safety.

Though, I think she was disappointed.
I suppose girls are prone to pervy moments too.

Tatsuo, wanted me to add that even though Harley Ken is taller than him, he could totally take him on...and win. Arrogant much?
Well Harley Ken, who is slightly taller than my new action figure, how do you feel about that?
Harley Ken says: "Not intimidated."
Oh boy.

Apparently, I have some rather attitude ridden fellows in my doll group.
Well, at least they are nice to look at. Until they start fighting....
Tisk...tisk...

Maybe this is why the girls get all the air time?

But I promised 2012 was going to showcase more of the fellas, and holding to that, in a future blog  you are going to get a HUGE surprise as to the newest purchase I made. I have been good not to buy much of anything, but I COULD NOT pass up this guy.
Oh I can't wait to share his arrival with everyone! I hope he arrives by Tuesday!!
This will be one of my most exciting purchases of 2012.

Okay, I'm done rambling.

Play on!! (^_^)

Too hot to handle...but I'm gonna handle him anyway... ;)

Ladies and Gentlemen may I introduce you to the newest addition in my male Fashion Royalty doll obsession....

He is Staying Power Darius Reid but I have re-named him "Mason" due to another doll already having his original name. Never thought I would get to own a real Darius, or the naming process would have gone differently. ;)

 Closer, can be better.  (^_^)

I am so excited to have him in my collection!! He came to me all the way from Canada for only $74 SHIPPED! I got so fortunate in 2011 and added 3 (this fella included) to my Fashion Royalty Male collection. I ordered him the day before Christmas and got him today.
This year will prove to put more focus on my male doll collection, as the girls got tons of exposure last year. Of course you will still see my gals, as I have a Kayla/Lea mass photo shoot planned in the future.

You may notice there are two new pages in the tabs area of my blog. One is the "About Me" tab and the other is the "Doll Drama Episodes" tab.  All episodes are now in an organized easy to access area. And as of right now, I have made all my videos viewable to all! Lots of Audio swapping took place, but it was worth it. What I didn't mention is that the continuance of "Doll Drama" depended on the popularity of Episode 14. The episodes are very time consuming and I love them, but after I was gone so long I didn't know if anyone would still be interested in seeing more. I am happy to report, we will continue making videos!! Episode 15 is planned to arrive in the next two weeks. Thank you for still believing in me and my ability to entertain each of you with my doll stories.

Over the next couple of days I will be giving the blog a new look. I already gave the YouTube channel an overhaul, and it looks a lot more doll friendly. ;)

I hope 2012 is treating everyone well, and WELCOME to all my new followers since my last post!!
I love hearing from each of you!

New Episode for the New Year!!

A Doll Affinity will be going through some changes in 2012. Many of which you will start to see as of this week. I am terribly excited to update the site and post more frequently. So to start everything off with a bang here is Episode 14 of Doll Drama! Long overdue, but well worth the wait.
Happy New Year to each of you and to those of you just joining my site....
THANK YOU!! (^_^)

***Please note: This episode contains adult themes, but you'll never see anything here that they couldn't show on regular television.***

You will begin to notice, through out this week, I will start to swap out all of the audio from my Doll Drama videos. I have decided to make my videos more accessible all over the world. Because no one should have to miss an Episode due to copy write issues!!  This episode marks the beginning of that trend. Hopefully, you will still enjoy the characters, plot, and pictures without the cool music choices of yesteryear. ;)

Another special thank you to Ms. Leo for sending me this adorable hat and scarf for Christmas!! You're a doll who just happens to love dolls! ;) Thank you!!

(Scarf and hat modeled by "Celestia")

And last, I realized I have a ton of pretty dresses no one ever sees, so for New Year's Day I dressed "Lissette" in the following luxury item and gave her a temporary up do.

I hope everyone is ready for the big new year ahead for each of us!!

Wishing you all happiness and prosperity!
